COOLING SHELTER
Due to the projected dangerously high temperatures this weekend, Micah is opening an indoor cooling space for neighbors experiencing homelessness. This space will not provide services or programming; it is simply an indoor air-conditioned space where those who would be outside otherwise can find shelter from the elements during these extremely high temperatures. This is NOT an overnight shelter facility. It has daytime hours only. The cooling space will be at The Common Ground Meeting House at 1915 Charles Street, which is located just behind the Colonial Motel off Princess Anne Street. On Saturday, June 22, doors will open at 10 AM. The space will remain open until 4 PM, when neighbors can attend the regularly-scheduled community dinner at 4 PM at Fredericksburg United Methodist Church. On Sunday, June 23, Micah's Street Church worshipping community will meet as scheduled at 9:30 AM for breakfast and worship. The space will then remain open as a cooling space after the worship service, until 5 PM Sunday night. Bottled water and some light snacks will be provided through the day.
August “Video Bible Study”
BEGINNING THURSDAY, AUGUST 4: Tuesdays and Thursdays in August, Micah Street Church will offer an indoor space for our neighbors to engage in a "video Bible study!" This is also a space to cool off, hydrate, and enjoy fellowship and snacks. 12:30 - 2:30 PM, each Tuesday and Thursday. Enter from the Caroline Street entrance of Fredericksburg Baptist. The cooling shelter is in the fellowship hall of the church. We will be showing an episode of "The Chosen" each week, a show about the life of Jesus Christ, with discussion to follow each episode.
