Put a face on Jeremiah Community!

The vision for Jeremiah community is getting real! We have land. We are working on rezoning. We have a plan for about 40% of the $16 million we need to build a home for our neighbors. And there is a growing swell of support forming to make this vision a reality.

Would you help us put a face on the growing community that is working to build the supportive, life sharing place that our neighbors need?

Email [email protected] with your name and a picture that we can use in social media and visual demonstrations of the many people who are getting behind this vision. If you’d like, you may also include a quote about why you believe in the vision.

Often called “the heart of Micah,” volunteers are essential to our mission of cultivating community and caring for neighbors. In a given year, more than 500 people are involved in one or more aspects of our ministry.

The relationships formed while doing good work with our neighbors and staff could not be replicated anywhere else, and we are grateful for our friends who have come alongside us to help neighbors find a home here. Volunteer orientations are currently held every 1st and 3rd Friday from 2:30pm to 4pm.

Fredericksburg’s downtown churches began their journey toward the vision for Micah Ecumenical Ministries almost 18 years ago. We’ve now been at this as many years as there are miles to the treacherous Jericho Road of the Good Samaritan story. Along the way, encounters with our neighbors’ suffering have taught us much about the home God envisions for humanity, and how we are called to take part.

Welcome, new Community Engagement Navigator!

Please welcome Alacia (Ah-lay-sha) Harrison to the Micah family as our newest Community Engagement Navigator! Lucky for us, Alacia has lots of volunteer coordination experience including six years at Cornerstones, a social services nonprofit in northwestern Fairfax County, and four years with Hospice Volunteers in Ohio. Alacia, her husband Jeff, and their two kids, Xavier (5) and Naomi (2) moved here two years ago when Jeff accepted the position of Associate Pastor at Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Alacia officially takes over in mid-July and is excited to get to know and work alongside Micah volunteers! Contact her at [email protected] and 540-200-8373.

Bagged lunch teams needed!

More groups are needed to complete our regular bagged lunch schedule! This is a great activity for a Sunday School class, community service groups, or even a family looking to give back.  It involves making about 100 sandwiches in advance, zipping them up in individual bags, and collecting non-perishable side items to go along with the bagged lunches.

We’re giving out about 300 bagged lunches a week, so we’re looking for more teams who might be interested in a monthly commitment or quarterly commitment to help meet the needs
